Eyelid Surgery in Fort Myers, Naples, Cape Coral & Bonita Springs
Heredity, age, diet, gravity and pollutants can cause the skin surrounding our eyes to relax and loosen.
When this happens, our eyes seem to portray a sad, tired or angry appearance.
Fortunately, Blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery, is an effective surgical procedure that removes excess eyelid skin and refreshes your appearance.
Blepharoplasty is a safe and effective eyelid surgery performed as an outpatient procedure in either of our state-of-the-art surgery centers by John W. Snead, M.D., F.A.C.S., our founder, and Brad A. Snead, M.D., F.A.C.S., our medical director.

A common eyelid problem is ptosis, pronounced “toe sis”, which also causes your eyelids to droop.
Ptosis occurs when the muscle that allows you to blink stretches or becomes unattached. Although ptosis can occur in both eyes, it often happens to only one eye, causing your eyelids to be uneven.

Ectropion, common in the elderly community, is a condition that causes the inner eyelid surface to become dry and irritated due to a “turning out” of the eyelid.
Sometimes, the Ectropion symptoms can be managed with artificial tears, but only until surgery can be scheduled.

Upper & Lower Eyelid Surgery – Blepharoplasty
Excess skin and fatty tissue around the eyes can sag with age, creating a tired look and appearance. Upper and lower eyelid surgery, also referred to as “blepharoplasty,” is one solution that can assist with this condition.

What Is the Recovery Time for Eyelid Surgery?
Recovery from eyelid surgery is typically quick. Because the procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, you can return home the same day and rest comfortably.
Most patients resume normal activities within one to two weeks. We schedule patients for a follow-up visiting around two weeks after eyelid surgery to monitor healing and progress.
Usually, patients experience little or no pain. If necessary, pain medication will be prescribed. You will notice a remarkable difference in your vision and appearance in about one week with continual improvement over the next several weeks.
Post-operative care and instructions will be thoroughly explained and a member of our staff is on-call 24 hours a day in case you have immediate questions or concerns about your surgery.
Is Eyelid Surgery Covered by Insurance?
Upper eyelid surgery is often covered by insurance, including Medicare, when it is considered medically necessary. Lower eyelid surgery is usually not covered by insurance because it is considered cosmetic.
For upper eyelid surgery, coverage typically depends on whether drooping eyelids are affecting your vision. To determine this, we perform a visual field test before and after gently lifting your eyelids. If the improvement in your peripheral vision meets insurance guidelines, your procedure may qualify for coverage.
While lower eyelid surgery is generally not covered by insurance, we offer reduced pricing when upper and lower eyelid surgeries are performed together.
Is Financing for Eyelid Surgery Available?
Yes, financing is available for eyelid surgery. Snead Eye Group partners with CareCredit to help you finance the procedure.
With approved credit, patients can use financing to cover out-of-pocket costs, including high insurance deductibles. We offer a two-year, no-interest rate payment plan, allowing you to pay for your procedure over time instead of up front.
