Fasanella is a form of Ptosis repair. Ptosis is the ophthalmic term used to denote the drooping or sagging of the upper eyelid. There are many reasons a patient can develop ptosis : trauma, old age, weakening of the muscles in the eyelid, and even in some cases neurological disease. Over time the structure that keeps the eyelid in place can break down leading to droopy eyelids. The condition can cause reduced field of vision, and if left untreated complete vision loss. The Fasanella procedure differs from Levator Dehiscence in that it approaches the eyelid from underneath repairing the Müller muscle, as opposed to tightening of the levator muscle.
